Feng
Shui, which literally means ”wind and water”,
is as old as Chinese culture itself, and is
believed to derive from Neolithic burial practices
at least 6000 years old. |

The
Bagua is a map that helps
identify which areas of the house relate to specific
areas of people’s lives. |

Feng Shui masters see the
world as completely alive with its own chi (or
energy), and believe that this energy is directly
affected by the arrangement of furniture, the
location of doors and windows, and the choice
of colors and materials.
Feng Shui—which can be thought of as ”acupuncture
for the home”—aims to create harmony,
happiness, wealth and balance in life.
The master first determines the age and the
compass orientation of the structure, and then
advises on positioning objects and colors in
certain directions and places inside. |

Adding color to create harmony
and balance in your home is one of the easiest
and most rewarding Feng Shui adjustments you
can make.
Feng Shui practitioners believe that all colors
affect ch’i energy differently. The energy in
color ”speaks”, and helps to connect
the mind, body and spirit. |

Colors are used to enhance,
maintain and calm, as well as for their symbolic
meanings: |

truth, harmony, purity and the way to higher
spiritual knowledge. |

In Feng Shui-inspired decorating,
warm colors from the red/yellow side of the
spectrum are generally used in the dining, living
and kitchen areas, neutrals are preferred for
halls and entryways, and cool colors from the
blue/violet side are employed in bedrooms and
bathrooms—for more details, see The
Creative Power of the Color Wheel.
However, when adding color, select carefully.
Try to make sure your Feng Shui-inspired colors
work with your existing décor! |
