Introduction to Texture Paint Finishes

Skill:  Intermediate DIY'er

If you're looking for a beautiful, stylish and durable finish for your walls and ceilings, then BEHR PREMIUM PLUS® Texture Paint is the choice for you. It comes in three texture options to suit your needs: smooth, sand and popcorn ceiling finish.

For Best Results:

Texture paint should be applied over primed surfaces or surfaces that have been previously painted with a low sheen product.

Do not apply over a high sheen product, as it will inhibit the texture from adhering properly.

Suggested Supplies

  • Stir Stick
  • Paint Tray
  • Texture Roller Cover
  • Putty Knife
  • Steel Trowel
Step 1

In addition to the standard painting tools, you will need the following to paint your walls and ceilings with BEHR PREMIUM PLUS Texture Paint: a five gallon size stir stick, a deep well paint tray, a loop roller cover and a wide putty knife or trowel.

Step 2

Start your project by stirring the paint thoroughly for two minutes until the material is the consistency of cooked oatmeal.

BEHR Texture Paint is thick and applies differently than standard paint. Be aware that multiple coats will be needed to achieve the desired results.
Step 3

Pour liberal amounts of paint into the deep well roller tray .

Keep in mind that a two-gallon container of BEHR Texture Paint is enough to paint one coat on a 100-200 sq. ft. area, depending on surface condition and application technique.
