  4. Let Behr Paints and Faux Finishes show you how to use Premium Plus With Style Faux Glaze to create a color blending finish on your walls. Let the how to guide from the experts at Behr show you how to achieve the exact look you want in your home.

  5. A Faux Finish is easily created by applying one or more colored glazes over a new or existing base color. Interested in using your existing surface color as the base color? No problem, as long as it is in good condition. If you’re choosing a new base color, we recommend PREMIUM PLUS ULTRA® or PREMIUM PLUS® Interior Paint in a Eggshell, Satin, or Semi-Gloss Enamel sheen.

  6. To prepare your topcoat glaze color, pour 1 part PREMIUM PLUS ULTRA® or PREMIUM PLUS® paint (one quart) and 4 parts FAUX GLAZE (one gallon) into a bucket and mix the contents thoroughly. For a more see-through or transparent look, add extra faux glaze to the mixture. For a denser or more opaque glaze color, add more paint to the mixture. The mixture will generally cover approximately 400 sq. ft.

TIP: Mix the entire quantity of glazing color needed for the project before you start painting. Combining the contents produces uniformity of color. This intermixing is called “boxing.”

  7. Using a 2” wide nylon/polyester brush, transfer the color glaze mixture from the bucket to a damp sea sponge. Be careful not to oversaturate the sponge with glaze. Then, use your sponge to lightly apply the colored glaze over a small section of the working surface in a random pattern. Do not soak the sponge in the glaze.

TIP: Due to the unique, natural shape and the surface irregularity of a sea sponge, the texture and appearance of patterns created will vary from one sponge to another. While you work, rotate your sea sponge to get marks of different shapes.

  8. While the glaze is wet, follow your sponge treatment with a pad applicator. In a random circular or wave motion, soften and blend the sponge marks together.

TIP: Wipe the pad applicator with a clean rag or paper towel every so often. Use a new pad applicator as the tool wears down and starts to leave lint.

  9. Work with both tools until you arrive at a look you like.

TIP: Be sure to work on wet glaze when creating your effect.

  10. Continue to work in small sections. Overlap and blend each section as you go to avoid hard edges.

TIP: Stand back and preview your work periodically to ensure an even look.

  11. Repeat the process until the project is complete.
