Let the how to guide from the experts at Behr show you how to achieve the exact look you want in your home.A Faux Finish is easily created by applying one or more colored glazes over a new or existing base color. Interested in using your existing surface color as the base color? No problem, as long as it is in good condition. If you’re choosing a new base color, we recommend PREMIUM PLUS ULTRA® or PREMIUM PLUS® Interior Paint in a Eggshell, Satin, or Semi-Gloss Enamel sheen.
To prepare your topcoat glaze color, pour 1 part PREMIUM PLUS ULTRA® or PREMIUM PLUS® paint (one quart) and 4 parts FAUX GLAZE (one gallon) into a bucket and mix the contents thoroughly. For a more see-through or transparent look, add extra faux glaze to the mixture. For a denser or more opaque glaze color, add more paint to the mixture. The mixture will generally cover approximately 400 sq. ft. Make this 1:4 ratio mixture for all the glaze colors needed.
TIP: Mix the entire quantity of glazing color needed for the project before you start painting. Combining the contents produces uniformity of color. This intermixing is called “boxing.”
Pour the color glaze mixture into a paint tray and load a 2” wide nylon/polyester brush with the colored glaze.
TIP: Test your technique and color combinations on a practice board before you begin the project.Transfer the colored glaze from the brush directly onto the drywall texture roller. Be careful not to oversaturate the roller with colored glaze.Roll the glaze onto the wall up and down, side to side, and in a crisscross motion to avoid creating hard roller edge lines. The pattern left by the roller will appear as small dots.
TIP: For a more saturated pattern, simply continue rolling over the newly painted surface until you arrive at a look you like.Work in small sections. Overlap and blend each section as you go to avoid hard edges.
TIP: Stand back and preview your work periodically to ensure an even look.Repeat the process until the project is complete.
TIP: If you wish to add a second or third color, repeat the process until you build up a color effect you like. You may use as many glaze colors as you wish.Colors Used: Base Color: Antique White 1823, Glaze Color: Vintage Grape 670F-7How to Create a Speckled Finish- Easy steps to create a speckled finish on your walls.
