If you’re looking for a way to makeover your outdoor living space before you host a summer of barbecues and pool parties without breaking the bank, there is a solution!

New BEHR DECKOVER® Solid Color Coating is an innovative makeover solution for your old, weathered wood and concrete surfaces. More than a stain, it’s a solid color coating that extends the life of your deck and concrete outdoor living spaces. It’s easy to apply, dries quickly, is slip-resistant, fills cracks up to ¼” and covers splinters.

This is excellent news if you have a wood deck that looks old and weathered, or a pool deck that’s cracked and ugly, because you don’t have to replace it anymore. As long as the wood deck or concrete surface is sound, you can resurface it and get a beautiful new smooth finish that you’ll be proud to host a party on.

The new product is currently available exclusively at The Home Depot stores nationwide and homedepot.com/behr in 54 unique colors, including 48 from Behr Premium Exterior Wood Stains and Finishes palette and six of Behr’s most popular Floor Coatings hues at a suggested retail price of $34.98 per gallon.

Do-it-yourselfers can visit behr.com/deckover to access robust how-to information and explore design inspiration.

So kick off your shoes and get outside for some fun on your deck this summer!

Colorfully yours,

I live in snow country and wonder how deck over holds up with the shoveling off of the decks in winter.

    • Tiffany Campbell says:

      Hi Alice,

DeckOver provides water proofing protection for your wood, composite and concrete surfaces. Since DeckOver is 4 times thicker than conventional stains, this extra mil thickness along with the unique mildew resistant formula protects against the elements such as rain, snow and ice.

I live in the North West and we have winters! I even used the smooth deck over to cover a tall water fountain that was worn cracked resin. I repaired the cracks with a spray rubber stuff and then painted the whole fountain. It ran 24/7 all last summer and with a little clean up should be ready to go again this summer. Needless to say, the deck holds up great!

I have a beach house in Fenwick Delaware and the decks are about 25years old but I will give your product a try.

  3. Mark Thoms says:

I tried your Behr deck stain several years ago on my deck. It did not hold up well to the chlorinated water from the pool. What about the Deckover product? Will the Deckover hold up to the chlorine from a pool?

    • Erika Woelfel says:

      Hi Mark,

DeckOver will be great for this area area. In addition to patio decks, this product is recommended for application around swimming pool and boat decks.

    Dear Tiffany:

My brother recommended deck over. Please advise what colors are being used in the photos above. I like the natural looking color used on the first deck photo & the brown deck w/ contrasting handrails.

    What colors were used?

    Thank you,

    • Erika Woelfel says:

      Hi Jackie,

No problem. Please find these details included below.

  5. Lori says:

I am looking to put this over my pool deck. My pool deck has several cracks in the deck. Can I fill the cracks with some type of concrete caulk before I put the Behr DeckOver? Thanks,

    • Erika Woelfel says:

Hi Lori – DeckOver will fill cracks no larger than 1/4″ in width. If the cracks are any wider, we would recommend using a paintable concrete patching compound to fill these areas.

  6. Kathryn says:

What are the colors that are used in the pictures above? Most importantly the second and third pictures?

    • Erika Woelfel says:

      Hi Kathryn,

      See below – thanks!

Will Deck Over adhere over a layer of latex paint or would we be apt to have it eventually peel (as the latex has done.) In other words, how good are it’s bonding qualities? We have rented a commercial sander and have sanded the whole surface….thoroughly. The latex paint has peeled only in areas where the sun shines all day. Would appreciate a professional opinion.

    • Erika Woelfel says:

Hi Char – DeckOver will adhere to a latex-based floor coating that is free of any flaking, peeling, chipping, or any other signs of failure. If the coating is showing a sign of failure, we would recommend removing the coating before applying DeckOver according to label instructions.

  8. Jeremy says:

I have read quote a few reviews that mention dog prints showing up into the finish and being unable to clean them off. Is there anything that Behr suggests to as a good cleaner to clean the dirt off the finish. Also, what is the expected life of the finish of this product?

    • Erika Woelfel says:

Hi Jeremy – For cleaning DeckOver we can recommend a soap and water solution and scrubbing the surface. We can also recommend our No. 63 All-In-One Wood Cleaner diluted according to label instructions. The life expectancy of this coating is similar to a high quality solid color wood stain (typically 5-10 years on horizontal surfaces, 15-25 years on vertical surfaces).

  9. Laura O says:

I live in Arizona, how well will this product hold up in our high temps? I need something slip resistant and not hot on our feet. I am planning on repainting my kool crete concrete deck with this Behr product.
I was also wondering if I can do any design work with this product, such as 12×12 blocks of multicolored sections? Is this possible? TIA!

    • Erika Woelfel says:

      Hi Laura,

If the DeckOver coating is applied according to label directions to a properly prepared, sound wood or concrete substrate, the film can be expected to last as long as a high quality Solid Color Wood Stain. Behr Solid Color Wood Stains last 5 to 10 years on horizontal surfaces and 15 to 25 years on vertical surfaces. However, please keep in mind that periodic touchups may be needed over the course of the coating’s life due to wear and tear that horizontal surfaces are subjected to.

You can create any design you like using the Deck Over colors. Let your imagination and creativity fly!

Can this product be used on composite decking

    • Quinn Larson says:

Yes, this product can be applied over composite decking. We recommend using our No. 63 cleaner before applying.

Hi! What color is the dark gray walkway? Thank you.

    • Deanna Torrez says:

Hello Erin, thank you for your interest in Behr products!
That dark gray walkway is our DeckOver color Slate Gray PFC-63.
