How to Apply BEHR PREMIUM® Semi-Transparent Decorative Concrete Stain

With BEHR PREMIUM® Semi-Transparent Decorative Concrete Stain, you can achieve the variation of color found in some natural stone.

For Best Results:

Before applying any stain, it is essential to have a properly cleaned and prepped surface.

For new or uncoated surfaces, refer to: Preparation of Uncoated Surfaces for Semi-Transparent Concrete Stain.

For previously coated or weathered surfaces, refer to: Preparation of Coated Surfaces for Semi-Transparent Concrete Stain.

  1. Applying stain with a fine mist pump sprayer

    Step 1

Once the surface is cleaned, prepped and has no sealer or coating present, you can apply the stain. Apply the stain in small sections, approximately 4' x 4'. Work quickly and feather edges. Apply with a high quality pump sprayer at a fine spray setting, using a circular motion.

NOTE: The coating will likely lighten as it dries.

  2. Rolling out stain evenly with a roller

    Step 2

To achieve an even appearance, back roll immediately after spraying with a 3/8" nap roller or pad applicator. Allow the first coat to dry before deciding if a second coat is necessary. Additional coats will help create a variegated look and may slightly darken the finish. Use the appropriate spread rate per gallon. Use when the air and surface temperatures are 50-90 degrees F.

  3. Letting stain dry on surface

    Step 3

For additional protection, apply a sealer topcoat. Allow stain to dry at least 4 hours before applying a topcoat.

  4. Beauty shot of finished patio, stained concrete

    Step 4

Coating will dry to touch in hour. Allow first coat to dry for 4 hours before deciding if a second coat is necessary.

Make sure that the surface is fully cured before use.
Allow 24 hours for light foot traffic.
Allow 72 hours for heavy foot traffic and furniture.
Allow 30 days before rinsing or cleaning with a mild detergent.
