Painted an old wooden desk. Went on very smoothly with roller (orange peel texture). Excellent application thickness and coverage. Needed only a couple of touchups after one coat. Dried sooner than expected. Very durable and attractive finish.

Horrible Paint!

I really wish I’d read the reviews before I purchased this. I figured paint was paint but was I wrong! This is garbage. It will not dry! And I understand it’s oil based, but I just finished painting some other cabinets with another brand satin oil paint and it’s fabulous. I’m going to have to strip what I’ve done so far and start over. Luckily, I started with some shelves to double check the color so I don’t have to strip my entire kitchen island!

No, I do not recommend this product.

Drying time

I have used Behr paint for years and it's always been the best. However, the Behr oil base enamel paint really disappoints me. It's been over 8 hours and the paint is still very tacky. Application is within the manufacturer's required requirements.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Hello Missouri Bean,

Thanks for taking the time to review our Oil-Base Semi-Gloss Enamel. I appreciate your loyalty to Behr. I’m sorry to hear the dry time didn’t meet your expectations. That can be a disappointing experience, but not to worry because I’d like to help.

As it turns out, the oil-base enamel has a 7 day cure time, so you can rest assured the tackiness you’re feeling after 8 hours is normal. To help with the drying process, I recommend increasing ventilation by opening up windows and introducing a fan.

I’ve sent you an email for further assistance, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Warm Regards,

Roxana N.

Drying is taking forever!

Painting my teenage daughter's bedroom. This paint covered well with one coat, but drying is taking forever! I have to keep animals (and my daughter) away from it until it is cured and that is proving tough with it taking DAYS to dry! And, HOW IN THE HECK DO YOU EXPECT MINERAL SPIRITS TO "TAKE OUT THE TACKINESS"? Please explain. I will be asking for a refund and using another product from this point forward.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Hi Ccssunshine, Thank you for your review, and I am sorry the paint hasn't dried after days from applying it. Using mineral spirits can help, as sometimes there's a tacky residue film left on the coating; cleaning the surface, can help take this off. However, if there's no residue, we'd recommend giving the paint additional time to dry. Make sure to open windows and place fans to help. Keep in mind that high humidity and cold temperatures can prolong the dry time. To help with this, I'll be sending you an email. Please keep an eye out for it, as it can go to your "Spam" folder. -Edith

Hello znurslp1,

Thanks for taking the time to review the Oil-Base Satin Enamel. I’m sorry to hear you had a hard time with the application and that the dry time is taking longer than expected. I can assure you this isn’t the experience we want any of our customers to have.

To fix, I recommend allowing the coating to dry for at least 24 hours and increase ventilation. If the coating is still tacky, gently wipe the coating using mineral spirits.

For further assistance, I’ve sent you an email, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Warm Regards,

Roxana N.

Log cure time leads to surface damage

I had to use this paint because the customer already sprayed his entire house with it and hired me to finish the doors and cabinets. The cure time on this paint is at lest 7 days+. I ruined the first set of interior doors because I figured the paint would be hard enough to move the doors from the spray booth. I was wrong and had to spend 16+ hours fixing the mistake. Plus you can’t even sand the paint for 7+ days after painting because it’s still to soft. Any error in painting takes 7+ days to correct. My advice is to Just spend the extra money and buy a high quality paint that has a short cure time. i would not recommend this product.

Hi Evan b,

Thank you for your review, and I am sorry to hear the paint dry sooner than expected to mood the doors. You're right; this coating does take at least 7 days to dry. During this time, it can be sensitive, which is why it be best to leave it alone during this time. To help turn this experience around for you, I will be sending you a separate email. Please keep an eye out for it, as it tends to go to the junk inbox. -Edith

The worst paint

This paint is HORRIBLE!!! It completely ruined my front door. First of all, it is NOT dry enough to recoat in 24 hours. In fact, I waited 2 WEEKS and it was still sticky and smelled so bad!! It completely ruined my door. We had to buy a heat gun and paint stripper to take all this paint off and repaint it with a better brand. It was a waste of money and 3 days work for my husband and I ! It does not even deserve 1 star. Here are some pictures of what it did to my door.

Hi Rosemarymott,

Thanks for sharing your experience, and I’m sorry to hear the paint stayed tacky after two weeks; that’s definitely not typical. Generally we’d recommend wiping it down with mineral spirits to remove the tackiness. However, I understand the door has been fixed.
Your satisfaction is important, so I’ll be sure to send you a follow up email and see how I can help turn your experience around.

Best,

Jeanette

Forever To Dry!

Hello Emmy19, thank you for your feedback. We're sorry your paint seems to be drying slower than anticipated. Our Oil-Base Semi-Gloss Enamel Paint normally dries to the touch within hours. However, it can take up to 7 days to fully cure and bond to your surface. So, to get your project back on track, I would recommend allowing the painted door to dry for at least another 24 hours in an area with good ventilation. If the surface still seems tacky after the additional dry time, it can be lightly cleaned with mineral spirits to remove the tacky residue and allow the coating to cure properly. Customer satisfaction is important to us. So, I've reached out to you directly to assist you further. Have a wonderful day! -Joanna

Great product for those high wear areas

I purchased the oil base pair to repair some doors in my home. Although I have always used water based paints in the past I realized that for the high usage areas it just won’t hold up to the abuse. This paint is super now you need patience and must use high quality brushes or rollers but it’s worth it! As always Behr is unbeatable for quality and price! Thank you for your great product!

Easy application

I purchased my paint at home Depot, I wanted a durable paint that would go on easy and last a long time. The associate in the paint department advise me to get this particular paint, not only did it do exactly what I needed, it went on very very easy and covered and just one coat. The next time I have to buy paint I will be buying this brand again, I am not a professional painter so need something that is easy to use, and this paint did all of those. I would advise anybody looking to buy paint to buy this brand.

Wrought iron fence

I bought this paint in semi-gloss because I didn't want flat black paint for outdoor wrought iron. Flat black paint doesn't repel water and doesn't last as long as semi gloss. So its been 24 hours and the paint is VERY glossy, not semi gloss. Im hoping It will tone down with more dry time. The paint is fairly easy to work with but does leave brush marks in the wrought iron.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Will not cute!

Bought this for interior and exterior doors and trim. Paint was sticky to work with and set quickly, leaving brush marks and ugly texture. However, after 4 days the finish hasn't cured - it's still soft. Too soft to sand or recoat, leaving me with an unfinished project.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Hi John,

thanks for reviewing the Oil-Base Semi-Gloss Paint. I'm sorry to hear that the paint was sticky to work with, left brush marks and is still soft after four days and you're unable to recoat it. I can assure you that this isn't normal, and not the kind of experience that we want our customers to have. Since it’s been four days, it’s best to continue to let it dry with good ventilation (fans, open windows/doors) for a full week (about three more days) which is the full cure. If it remains sticky, you’ll need to clean the surface with mineral spirits which should resolve the issue. Then you can go ahead and sand off the unwanted texture and recoat the surface. I’ll be sending a follow-up email, so please be on the lookout for that.

Best regards,

Takhari

Dog Tough!

We have a dedicated room our dogs go into when we are not home. We have 4 German Shorthair Pointers and they play hard, and they often jump on the walls to look out the windows. This scuffs the walls and leaves marks. I'm 1 full year into using this paint and the walls still look freshly painted! I can not say enough positive things. * Applies Easy * Goes on Smooth * Full coverage on first coat I was impressed, I also used it on a antique hutch I have repurposed to be used in our kitchen. The paint is holding up very well and adhered beautifully.

Yes, I recommend this product.
