Our Behr team members are a mosaic of visible and invisible characteristics, including backgrounds, skill sets, perspectives, and experiences. We celebrate this diversity and strive to build a culture of equity and inclusion. To us, that means a culture where every team member…
is treated fairly and has an equal opportunity to develop to full potential
has a sense of belonging and feels safe to speak up and take calculated risks
is free to be authentic and feels respected and valued for their uniqueness
“When we create an environment where every individual feels respected, valued, and a sense of belonging, that’s when they can truly bring their best selves to work, be better teammates, maximize their contributions to the team, our organization and their communities.
My entire leadership team and I are committed to listening and learning on our journey toward greater inclusion and equity for all.”
- Jeff Filley, President
The collective work of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) is continuous and ever-changing, and there is no finish line. What’s more, it’s a job shared by all at Behr—from our DEI Council, to our senior leaders, to our managers, and to our team members at large.
Our Council consists of team members, representing all major departments, and is diverse on many dimensions: job level, tenure, age, background, sexual orientation, race/ethnicity, and gender. What Council members all share is a passion for Behr and for DEI.
The Council's primary role is to:
Promote Community
Provide a sense of belonging for underrepresented teammates at Behr Paint Company.
Create a Safe Space
Provide a safe space for Behr team members to share, ask, discuss, and connect
Support Education & Growth
Provide insights and feedback on current initiatives, and champion DEI efforts to build greater awareness and allyship
The Council is also a key advisory partner to the organization on approaching workplace processes and community partnerships with a DEI lens.
Our Executive Leadership Team serves on the Council’s Steering Committee.
In 1999, after 52 years of private ownership, Behr Paint Company was acquired by Masco Corporation of Livonia, Michigan. Both Masco and Behr share a continuous improvement culture and an unwavering commitment to doing the right thing.
Masco's long-term focus and commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion helps amplify our work by enabling collaboration and best practice sharing with our sister business units, such as Delta Faucets, Kichler Lighting, and Liberty Hardware.
For years, we’ve collaborated with several national diversity partners that provide targeted expertise and support through forums; educational workshops; safe spaces for open dialogue; leadership development opportunities; and storytelling panels to provide greater awareness around barriers and adversities faced by historically underrepresented team members.
