My Uncommon Slice of Suburbia
Lamps and lighting can make or break a space. By updating an old lamp with a fresh coat of paint and a new lampshade, you can brighten up any space. Think of all the money you are saving by not jumping out and buying new.
If you are in need of a new accessory but are short on funds, shop craigslist, garage sales and other classifieds and then upcycle your find for a fresh new look!
Prior to painting the lamp, it was lost on top of our black nightstand. By updating the lamp with this fresh color, it really made it pop. With the combination of distressed wood floors, an elegant duvet and a freshly painted lamp, our bedroom is complete.
If you need a second coat, you can apply it the following day. This should only take approximately 20 minutes
Paint can take up to 21 days to be completely cured so keep that in mind before you start using it.

You can either attach the old lampshade or you can further update the lamp with a brand new shade

I gave it a very light sanding to make sure the paint would adhere well.
Apply the first coat of paint onto the lamp. I used the 2" angled paint brush for the majority of the lamp and a small artist brush for the details. Let it cure overnight.
Apply the second coat using the same process as before and let dry overnight. Step back and admire all your hard work!
If you need a second coat, you can apply it the following day. This should only take about 20 minutes. As a final touch, you can either attach the old lampshade, or you can further update the lamp with a brand-new shade.
