KILZ® ORIGINAL Interior Water-Based Primer No. L2003
Designed to deliver the same heavy stain blocking, smooth flow and leveling, sandability, and excellent adhesion as our KILZ Original Interior Oil-Based Primer while bringing the convenience of a water base such as low odor, low VOC’s and easy soap and water clean-up! KILZ Original Water-Based Primer blocks tough stains such as water, tannin, smoke, nicotine, grease marker and more. Dries fast in 1 hour and sands easily in as little as 2 hours after application. It can be used for a wide variety of interior surfaces and works well with water-based or oil-based paints. Not suitable for areas prone to mold and/or mildew or as a primer for floor coatings.

85° = < 10.0. Sheen levels depend on porosity and various surface irregularities.
Best for use in
Interior surfaces including wood, drywall, plaster, masonry, brick, MDF, concrete, clean ferrous and non-ferrous metal, galvanized, aluminum and properly prepared glossy surfaces. Not recommended for mold or mildew-prone surfaces or on flooring.
Coverage
300 - 400 Sq. Ft. per Gallon depending on the surface texture, porosity and application method. It does not include the loss of material from spraying.
PRODUCT USAGE
- Use on wood, drywall, plaster, masonry, brick, MDF, concrete, clean ferrous and non-ferrous metal, galvanized, aluminum, and properly prepared glossy surfaces.
- Not recommended for mold or mildew-prone surfaces or on flooring.
Surface Preparation
- All surfaces must be clean, free of dust, chalk, oil, grease, wax, polish, mold and mildew, loose peeling paint, rust and all other foreign substances.
- If washing is necessary, use a non-soapy detergent or a TSP substitute, rinse well and allow to dry.
- Peeling or Checked Paint: Scrape off loose paint and sand to a smooth surface. Sanding or removal of paint containing lead is hazardous.*
- Glossy Surfaces: For maximum adhesion, scuff sand the surface thoroughly before priming.*
- Mold or Mildew Covered Surfaces: Do not use. Mold and/or mildew must be completely removed first with a mildew remover. Surface must be cleaned, allowed to dry and assured to be mold and/or mildew free before applying.
- Masonry, Brick, Stucco and Plaster: KILZ ORIGINAL WATER-BASED Primer may be used on clean, dry, aged interior masonry surfaces that have cured (dried) at least 30 days.
- Fire Restoration: It is critical to clean and repair damaged surfaces thoroughly before priming.

Application
- Eye protection is recommended. For spray applications, a small amount of water (no more than 1/2 pint per gallon) may be added. Do not thin for stainblocking applications.
- Only apply if surface, air and product temperatures are between 50°-90°F. Stir thoroughly before and occasionally during use. Apply using a brush, roller or sprayer.
- Brush – High quality Nylon/Polyester.
- Roller – High quality 3/8-1/2" nap on smooth surfaces or 1/2-3/4" nap on semi-rough or porous surfaces.
- Airless spray – .015-.019 tip / 60 mesh filter
- Prime the entire surface to ensure a uniform appearance of the topcoat.
- Stainblocking: After priming, test for stain bleed-through by applying the topcoat to a small section. Allow the primer to dry longer for heavier stain-blocking. If the stain bleeds through the topcoat, apply a second coat of primer and test again before topcoating the entire area.
- Coverage: 300 - 400 sq. ft. (27.87 - 37 m2) per gallon depending on application method and surface porosity.

Disposal
- Clean equipment and paint spatters with warm, soapy water.
