August is one of those months that sneaks up on the calendar when we realize the year is more than half over. It is a month of subtle transformation from full-blown summer to the first signs of fall. August is also a month packed with activities from back-to-school planning to taking that last weekend getaway. As the year starts to wind down, we start seeking moments of reflective calm.
In our latest Color of the Month edition, we look at Gratifying Gray — a neutral hue from the BEHR® DESIGNER COLLECTION. Washed in beige with trace green and yellow undertones, this versatile gray is perfect for spaces that welcome the sunlight and those that keep their cool. Gratifying Gray excels here — helping balance a room’s palette with a hue that calms as it envelops.

Both traditional and modern, Gratifying Gray is a neutral maestro for its ability to accent different hues. It works exceptionally well with other neutrals, and it balances intensely shaded and muted tones. From foggy blue-grays and shaded gray-purples to muted blue-reds and earthy tan-greens, there’s a world of color waiting to meet Gratifying Gray.
Hallways painted in this versatile hue speak of refinement and down-to-earth charm. There’s a give and take here, as the color brings out the warmth of natural wood and the clean lines and cool tones of metalwork accents.
From the bedroom to the study or lounge, walls painted in Gratifying Gray create an inviting yet sophisticated space. Welcome the relaxed feeling as you settle into a cozy chair to read a chapter or contemplate joyful summer experiences.
Calm slumbers await when you paint your bedroom walls in this warm, light gray hue—an ideal choice for bedrooms. Our thoughts naturally drift to soft textiles, organic fibers, and natural wood grain furniture, so a backdrop that speaks of serenity and relaxation is a heavenly match indeed.
Used as exterior paint, Gratifying Gray brings a chic look to your home. We like to call it the “castle sweet castle” illusion. As a light base gray with purity and elegance, it creates curb appeal, extends neighborhood sophistication, and draws the eye upward.
Whether adding bedroom serenity or exterior stateliness, Gratifying Gray delivers a soothing sense of satisfaction to your home. Our August Color of the Month is the perfect answer to summer’s end and the calmness that follows.

I am painting the interior of my home, gratifying gray. I would like to come up with a striking blue contrast color without it being too harsh. I was looking at blueprint, English Channel, and midnight blue. Which of those three do you think would go best or do you have another suggestion? Thank you!
I am painting my basement, I have a dark grey couch with lots of black, white, and neutral accents. I am looking for a light gray colour that will brighten up the space but has some warmer tones to not look so cold- but not too warm that it will clash with the couch. What colour would you recommend? I was thinking gratifying gray

Hello! I can’t tell if my comments are posting. I’m looking for guidance on Greige or Gratifying gray. We have a 4000 sq ft house with all honey oak doors, trim, cabinets. I want to refresh it but replacing it all to white is not an option. What would be better? I would ideally like a house with gray walls and white trim but this is where we are for now 🙂
Hello Mara, thank you for visiting our blog!
Both of those colors would be great to use for a gray look in your home.
I recommend purchasing 8oz samples of each color and paint a swatch on your wall to see what you like best. It will help you to visualize the color.

Deanna
I have stargazer n510_3 in my kitchen which shares a wall in family room. What color can I paint my family room?
Hello Sonia, thank you for reaching out!
You can paint your family room in Silver Shadow N510-1, Evening White N460-1 or Absolute Zero N490-1.
Hope this helps!

I have north facing rooms. Dark brown leather furniture and teak coffee/end tables. A mix of cool and warm. I’d like a grey with a hint of beige but everyone I’ve tried have too much blue, green or yellow undertones. The north windows seem to exaggerate the tones so something more neutral?? Any ideas?
Hello Amanda, thank you for visiting our blog!
You could try Even Better Beige DC-010 or Chic Gray PPU26-10 and see if one of those would work.
Hope this helps!

What darker grey would you recommend to go on bathroom cabinet with the Gratifying Gray on my walls?
Hi Michie, thank you for visiting our blog!
If you are using Gratifying Gray on the walls for your cabinets you can do a darker gray in Welded Iron HDC-AC-17A or Mined Coal PPU18-18.
Hope this helps!

I have a lot of honey oak… My kitchen cabinets and floors… I will be painting for living room and kitchen…. Will gratifying gray or Gregie go with honey oak… Thank you for your help…
Hi Kathy – thanks for visiting the Colorfully BEHR blog!
Gratifying Gray has an inherently warm yellow undertone due to it’s formula so it will absolutely work well with warm tone of your honey oak cabinets and floor.

Diana
I hope you’re still monitoring these comments!!! If choosing between Greige and Grarifying Gray when you have A LOT of honey oak, would you recommended Gratifying Gray? We picked up samples today and the gal recommended Greige. We have honey oak trim, doors, cabinets all over and 4000 sq ft. It’s a bit much to change everything to white (I wish we could) so I’m trying to find the absolute best paint color. I love gray and our last house was gray with white trim!
Hello Mara, response is on your other comment.
Thank you!
hello, I would appreciate some warm neutral color recommendations for my basement. it’s a large rectangular room with a short hallway on the other side of stairs. 1300 square feet, with low ceiling and 2 casement windows I keep curtains on. I have recessed ceiling lights. Have a med brown couch I’m keeping with lighter neutral carpet. thank you!
Will this look good with kitchen cabinets painted Sharkey Gray by Martha Stewart? They are a Greig color.
Love the color gray.
Will gratifying gray go with honey oak cabinets and floors? I will be painting my kitchen and living room and I have beige furniture in the living room… And can you suggest some other greige colors that will work… Thanks

While some of the grays have a clean look and I like them for that reason, I fail to see how they can be called warm. Gray is cool. It’s modern, it goes with many styles and other colors, but it is still cool.
Hi Coralin – thanks for visiting Colorfully BEHR, a warm gray contains a bit of yellow and sits somewhere between gray and brown. We might call them taupe or greige.

Diana
I seem to be unable to find it on your app!
