FAQ: Warm Gray, Cool Gray

This image shows a warm gray in Chic Gray and a cool gray in French Silver painted on the wall.
This is a seating area with mid century modern furniture with a chair and table with candles, a small lamp and books.

We receive many, many questions regarding grays.  One of the most frequently asked is how to difference between warm and cool grays, and their respective influence on a space.

Cool grays will have a blue, purple and green undertone, while warm grays will have a yellow, red, or brown undertone to them.
If you paint an area in your home a cool gray, like French Silver PPU18-05, you’ll give your space a more light, airy and relaxed feeling. Warm grays, such Chic Gray PPU26-10 are the perfect background for a cozy, earthy, and sophisticated feel.

hello, I am looking for any light gray shade to match the Behr Ultra White on the ceiling. Hopefully Ultra White with 20% black in it. What color do you suggest?

Hello Farzana, thank you for reaching out!

We recommend Chic Gray PPU26-10. It is a lighter gray tone which you are looking for and it will work with Ultra Pure White.

      Hope this helps!

I have cream/yellow tile throughout living area and kitchen. The room also has western exposure in Florida. I really do not want to highlight the yellow color. My kitchen cabinets and furniture are espresso. I am looking for a silver Gray color. Have tried many samples. Totally confused. Don’t know if I should be looking at warm or cool grays. What colors would you recommend?
